FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CA Protective Parents Association

Davis, CA  is hosting the 17th Annual Northern California Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Conference Saturday, April 30th, 2011, from 9:30-5:00 at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A Street, Davis, California.

This year's conference features Dr. Colin A. Ross, who will present a six hour workshop "Trauma Model Therapy for Child Sexual Abuse".  The conference also features Guest Speaker Rhonda Begos from Milwaukee, WI, who speaks about her recovery from child sexual abuse.  Her website, rhondabegos.com, asserts that silence can isolate victims, and speaking out is an important step in healing.  This annual event is produced by The Incest Survivors Speakers Bureau of California and California Protective Parents Association, two organizations that originated in Yolo County.

In his workshop, Dr. Ross will present a treatment approach for children and survivors of trauma including:  domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse, neglect, emotional abuse and others.  The two core principles of this treatment approach are the problem of attachment to the perpetrator, and the locus of control shift.  This conference is appropriate for survivors, therapists, nurses, attorneys, politicians, judges, advocates, and supportive family and community members.

Dr. Colin A. Ross directs the Trauma Program at Timberlawn Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and provides consultation to Trauma Programs at the Forest View Hospital in Michigan and the Del Amo Hospital in Torrance, California.   He is author of seven books on trauma and dissociation, dozens of research articles, and has presented workshops all over the world, including in Australia and China. For more about Dr. Ross, go to www.rossinst.com.

Rhonda Begos is an educator, entertainer, professional speaker and advocate for children's and women's rights from Milwaukee, WI.  She is also a member of the popular, nationally known band, Streetlife, the official band of the Milwaukee Bucks.  Rhonda's beautiful and inspirational slide presentation will be shown continuously during the lunch break.

Lunch will not be provided this year, but take out menus from downtown Davis restaurants will be available on the tables, and attendees will be encouraged to order food to be delivered or picked up during the lunch break so that they can enjoy networking, making quilt squares, and watching the slide show during the lunch break.

As always, the 2011 Conference will be offered at no-cost and no-registration, so that all who care to may attend, and can remain anonymous if they so choose.  Professionals can earn up to 6 CEU's by registering and paying a fee on site at 9:00am.
